The Fallas monuments that you just can´t miss when you visit Valencia.

In order to enjoy to the full the festival week of San José in Valencia you must see the Fallas monuments that are in the Special Section . From the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to the Plaza del Pilar you can soak up Valencia´s Fallas culture while strolling through the city enjoying the splendid sunshine.

We propose a route during the city´s most popular festival in order to get the most out of the Fallas of the Special Section of Valencia. These are the biggest and most artistic creations that are built every year and you will be able to see them on a straightforward tour through the city of Valencia. They radiate the sentiment, culture, beauty and Valencian history all in one. Also we can´t forget the children´s Fallas, which always accompany their grander version and can always be found very near to these. Some of the Fallas of the Special Section charge an entrance fee to enable a visit to the very heart of the construction, an experience that is certainly worth it

In the centre of Valencia, the municipal Falla, situated in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and patronised by the Town Hall, is the starting point to enjoy the charm of Valencia filled with Fallas atmosphere. Just after starting the tour en route to the Falla Convento de Jerusalén, that this year celebrated its 125th year anniversay with a commemorative book and won the first prize of the 2018 Fallas in the Special Section, you can see the Plaza de Toros ( bull ring ) and the Estación del Norte ( railway station ), both of which are worth admiring .

From the Falla Convento de Jerusalén, via a pleasant stroll, you come to the Falla Cuba - Literato Azorín, where you can´t miss its incredible light show at 20h every day during the week of Fallas. In a street taken straight out of a fairy story , you will find yourself submerged in one of the most surprising spectacles of the city.

Continuing along Literato Azorín street , the Falla Sueca- Literato Azorín, which also has a spectacular light show, demonstrates its Special Section artistic creation. A tour under the brightest sky of the city that without a doubt you just can´t miss.

The next compulsory stop on our tour is the Ruzafa market, on the way to the Falla Regne de Valencia-Duc de Calabria. This market situated in one of the most typical neighbourhoods in the city of Valencia is a cultural and artistic melting pot in which the locals, who have seen Ruzafa evolve, and young people who are moving in live side by side in what is becoming the new fashionable zone of Valencia. Artists and the multitude of bars, cafés and trendy restaurants are concentrated in this peculiar part of town. This special market shows off its recently painted colourful façade, a visual impact that continues in its interior.

From the Falla Regne de Valencia-Duc de Calabria two streets away we come to the Falla Almirante Cadarso-Conde Altea, which won the prize for the best small individual model and was consequently reprieved from the flames. Very close to the area is Cánovas, in the Gran Vía Marqués del Turia, an ideal place for going out to the bars and pubs to discover the Fallas nightlife.

Crossing the Turia river bed via the Aragón bridge, which is incidentally a great place to view the nightly firework display and enjoy the best Valencian pyrotechnics, we come to the Falla Exposición after walking down a stretch of the Alameda promenade.

From the Falla Exposición we can now head towards the Falla Na Jordana by means of an agreeable walk in the greenery of the gardens of the Turia river bed. The old river bed is today one of the most emblematic spaces in Valencia due to its natural surroundings and the fun activities on offer. This is the place that brings outdoor sport to life and encourages families to take a Sunday break.

Just before visiting the Falla Na Jordana, its essential to leave the river bed to admire the Torres de Serrano, imposing gateway of the medieval walls. This monument was declared as a
monument of artistic and historical interest and from its terraces you can enjoy magnificent views of the city and the river bed.

The Falla Na Jordana is situated in a square in the Carmen district which is known for its charm and narrow streets and the Falla stands out as an imposing monument. From here we´ll go in the direction of the end of our tour, the Falla Plaza del Pilar. However, in this final section of our route, some small detours to the Plaza de la Virgen, Plaza de la Reina, the Central Market ( Mercado Central ), the Silk Exchange ( La Lonja ) will steep you in the history of Valencia.

Once in the old town of the city of Valencia, take the opportunity to discover its heritage. Walking along Caballeros street, one of the most traditional streets in Valencia, you can find the church of San Nicolás which was called the Valencian Sistine Chapel by the Italian restorer of that famous chapel, Gianluigi Colalucci. At the end of the street in the Plaza de la Virgen we can admire the Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados and the cathedral of Valencia. The cathedral is gothic although it also has elements of Romanesque, baroque, Renaissance and neoclassic, given that it was built over various centuries.

In the Plaza de la Reina, the church of Santa Catarina is a magnificent representation of the Valencian gothic style whose most emblematic feature is the baroque bell tower. The Central Market and La Lonja are very near. The latter looking very much like a medieval fortress with thick, solid walls.

Not included in our tour but deserving a mention as one of the spectacular Fallas is L´Antiga de Campanar which also belongs to the Special Section. On the way to visit this Falla you can see the Torres de Quart, the design of which heavily inspired the Arco de Triunfo in Naples. The Falla Monestir de Poblet-Aparicio Albiñana, better known as L´Antiga de Campanar will be competing fiercely again this year after winning the first prize in 2017 after a 26 year wait.

To make sure that you don´t miss a thing, we offer you this interactive map to guide your steps in the Fallas of Valencia.
